PostNord sets new climate target: Net-zero emissions by 2040

PostNord’s climate agenda has been updated with the target of reaching net-zero emissions by 2040.

The next big step in PostNord’s climate work is now being taken. PostNord is both extending and strengthening its climate agenda by working toward achieving net-zero emissions by 2040. The updated climate agenda has been adopted by PostNord’s Board of Directors and reinforces the Group’s role as a climate leader in Nordic logistics.

“We are now taking the next step by putting together a long-term and science-based climate agenda stretching through to 2040. Moving toward net zero means ensuring that the same amount of greenhouse gases emitted in PostNord’s value chain in 2040 are also permanently removed,” says Amanda Jackson, Head of Group Sustainability at PostNord.

In addition to the science-based targets, PostNord also has operational targets. These form the foundation for reaching the science-based targets, and are designed to clearly link emission reductions to activities in PostNord’s business operations, such as fossil-free transportation and emission-free distribution.

Apart from the new net-zero target, the updated climate agenda includes a revised operational target regarding emission-free distribution. The target for achieving emission-free distribution using own light vehicles has been moved from 2027 to 2030 and adjusted from 100 to 80 percent. This is due to external factors such as high investment costs, lack of electricity grid capacity, and delivery routes in remote parts of the Nordic region that are difficult to electrify.

“In 2025, we started developing our Group-wide roadmap to achieve the long-term net-zero emissions target by 2040. We are also expanding Green by PostNord, the Group’s climate transition program, with the addition of a new work stream, which will work on emission reductions in new categories such as capital goods,” says Amanda.
