PostNord is one of Europe’s Climate Leaders
For the third year in a row, PostNord has been named one of Europe’s climate leaders by the Financial Times and Statista.
The Financial Times and Statista have released their fourth edition of Europe’s Climate Leaders, featuring 500 European companies. PostNord is among 47 Swedish-based companies recognized on the list.
PostNord works towards science-based climate targets that are approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Additionally, we have operational targets to support our science-based targets.
Since 2020, we have achieved a 55 percent reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions, and a 22 percent reduction in scope 3. (PostNord’s scope 3 emissions are measured against parcel volumes.)

What has PostNord done to reduce emissions?PostNord’s climate agenda aims to optimize our logistics system and the vehicles that PostNord and our transportation providers operate on the Nordic roads. This is a massive effort, considering that PostNord’s own fleet has over 10,000 vehicles. Key initiatives include green corridors, meaning fossil-free transportation on high-volume routes, and phasing in electric vehicles. By the end of 2023, 32 percent of PostNord’s vehicle fleet ran on electricity, and 67 percent of the energy used in our fleet was renewable. |

How will PostNord keep reducing emissions?
Our transition is business-critical and essential for futureproofing our company. We continue our group-wide climate transition program, Green by PostNord. Our efforts involve close collaboration with our transport providers. We also work with stakeholders outside our industry to decarbonize heavy transport on a large scale, in line with the Paris Agreement.
What are some of your learnings since you began working towards your climate targets?
To achieve real results, climate efforts need to be part of everyday operations, and collaboration is definitely key to success.

This year’s Europe’s Climate Leaders list focuses on businesses that have reduced their scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensity the most between 2017 and 2022. Other factors include transparency on scope 3 emissions. (Scope 1 emissions come from companies’ own operations, scope 2 emissions from the energy companies purchase and use, and scope 3 emissions arise elsewhere in companies’ value chains.)
